I didn't know that immigrants that come here are really trying to help our society and state

A few days ago Center for Peace Studies hosted students from two elementary schools from Dugave and Gospić, who were here as part of the project 'Violence leaves trace – Ring for non-violence.' „One of my students said that in these two days of extra curriculum class we managed to break three prejudices – fear of people with disabilities, refugees and the belief that the residents of Dugave are welcoming. You surely know what pleasure it is to break prejudices“, their teacher Dijana Zajec wrote.

The students were presented with the work of Center for Peace studies and the project Taste of Home, through which the Center alongside with its partners informs and empowers people who got refugee status (asylum and subsidiary protection) or are living as foreigners in Croatia. The tastiest and most tangible result of that work is the cookbook that our Emina Bužinkić presented to the students.

Here are some of the impressions of students and their teachers:

„I am very satisfied with your engagement with the students and with the presented contents, and as far as the feedback I got from my students – they feel the same! Neva Čapin, OŠ Fran Galović

„After gathering the impressions from our field class in Zagreb I have a need to present them. I think that the fact that the kids in the bus singled out the visit to Center of Peace Studies and meeting the Taste of Home crew as the best part of the entire day says it all. I really liked the welcoming atmosphere and the interaction achieved with the students. I would especially stress the interesting moment of learning through watching the documentary report filmed in Dugave. I congratulate you on an excellent choice of participants, and also non-pretencions, but memorable and appropriate content. For one of our next meetings I would gladly plan a longer period of working time, with workshops and practice. I thank you for your efforts and greet you until some other Sunday meeting in Zagreb!“ Margareta Gašljević, OŠ Korenica

„One of my students said that in these two days of extra curriculum class we managed to break three prejudices – fear of people with disabilities (we visited the Center for education and rehabilitation of persons with motor disabilities and chronic diseases in Dubrava the day before), refugees and the belief that the residents of Dugave are welcoming! You surely know what pleasure it is to break prejudices.“, Dijana Zajec

„I really liked the visit to Center for Peace Studies. I like that we met different cultures and traditions. I didn't even know that immigrants that come here are really trying to help our society and state. I will definitely treat immigrants differently from now on. I want to visit them again and get to know them even better.“
